What better way to experience the wonder of the Karoo firsthand, than by walking throughgh it? Even in the summer months, where rainfall is low, there are thousands of small plants to see and hundreds of little creatures going about their business.

In winter, when we receive the majority of our rain the array of flowering plants and bushes is stunning. The reserve already has a number of popular and easy-to-follow trails – with a choice of easy, moderate and difficult – the difficult trails involving some scrambling on approaches to cliffs and kopjes.

Although the reserve is not fully explored yet, we are happy to permit hikers to take a tent and overnight at Gecko. Two-way radios are available at a fee for those who would like to stay in touch with reserve management whilst on a hike.

A day pass for visiting hikers is R50.00 per person.
